Frequently asked questions
Who was El Santo?
El Santo, the Silver-Masked Wrestler, was Rodolfo Guzmán Huerta (Sept 23, 1917 - Feb 5, 1984), a Mexican wrestler and actor born in Tulancingo, Hidalgo. Active since 1942, he became the most popular wrestler in Mexican history. He starred in 51 films (1958-1982) where he fought mummies, vampires, criminals, and monsters. He wore his silver mask throughout his public life and was even buried with it. His son, El Hijo del Santo (The Son of El Santo), continues his legacy.
What is Mexican *lucha libre*?
Lucha libre is a sport/spectacle born in Mexico in the 1930s, characterized by masked wrestlers who assume identities as *técnicos* (heroes) or *rudos* (villains). Main companies: CMLL (Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre, founded 1933) and AAA. Masks are sacred: losing them in a *lucha de apuesta* (wager match) is the greatest humiliation. It was declared Intangible Cultural Heritage of Mexico City (2018).
Are the T-shirts official merchandise?
No. These are original fan art created by LOSMIOS, inspired by the visual aesthetics of El Santo and classic Mexican lucha libre. They are not affiliated with the Guzmán family, El Hijo del Santo, or CMLL/AAA. These are unique pieces that celebrate the cultural legacy of the Silver Masked Man.
What designs does the collection include?
5 designs: 1) Large format silver El Santo mask, 2) Classic 60s movie poster style portrait, 3) El Santo in fighting pose with the phrase "Por la máscara" (For the mask), 4) El Santo vs. Blue Demon combination, and 5) Retro CMLL style logo.
What occasion are they ideal for?
Perfect for Lucha Libre matches at Arena México (CDMX) or Arena Coliseo (Guadalajara), classic Mexican film festivals, Mexican culture events in the USA, Halloween/Day of the Dead fairs with a luchador theme, and simply for evoking the nostalgia of Mexico's Golden Age cinema.
Do they combine with other wrestling collections?
Yes, they combine especially well with LOSMIOS' Mexican Wrestlers collection, where you can find pieces by Blue Demon, Mil Mascaras, Huracan Ramirez, and other icons. Also with the Mexico Inspired collection for a complete classic Mexican culture look.
Are there discounts for Mexican cultural dates?
