Who was Diego Armando Maradona?
Diego Armando Maradona Franco (Oct 30, 1960 - Nov 25, 2020) was an Argentine footballer considered one of the two greatest of all time, alongside Pelé. He was born in Lanús, Argentina. He played for Argentinos Juniors, Boca Juniors, Barcelona, Napoli (where he is an eternal icon), Sevilla, and Newell's. He led Argentina to win the 1986 World Cup. His Hand of God and Goal of the Century against England are the most famous goals in history. Nickname: D10S (God + number 10).
What was the Hand of God?
On June 22, 1986, in the quarterfinals of the Mexico '86 World Cup, Argentina vs. England, Maradona scored a goal with his hand that the referee didn't see. Four minutes later, he scored the Goal of the Century after dribbling past 5 English players. Argentina won 2-1 and ended up winning the World Cup. Maradona later said it was "a little with the head of Maradona and a little with the hand of God."
