Frequently asked questions
Who was Frida Kahlo?
Magdalena Carmen Frida Kahlo y Calderón (July 6, 1907 - July 13, 1954) was a Mexican painter born in Coyoacán, CDMX, known worldwide for her surrealist and folk art self-portraits. She contracted polio at age 6 and suffered a severe bus accident at 18 that marked her life. She was the wife of muralist Diego Rivera (whom she married twice). Today, she is a global icon of feminism, Mexican identity, and the representation of chronic pain transformed into art.
What are Frida's most iconic paintings?
Her most famous works: The Two Fridas (1939), Self-Portrait with Thorn Necklace and Hummingbird (1940), The Broken Column (1944), The Wounded Deer (1946), Self-Portrait with Monkey (1938), Frida and Diego Rivera (1931), and Viva la Vida (1954, her last work). Her style combined surrealism with Mexican folk art.
Are the Frida shirts official merchandise?
Frida's original works are in the public domain (she passed away in 1954). Our t-shirts combine visual references to her public works with original LOSMIOS designs inspired by her aesthetic. They are not affiliated with Frida Kahlo Corporation or the Kahlo family, but they respect her artistic and cultural legacy.
