Frequently asked questions
Which artists are represented in the salsa collection?
The collection includes designs inspired by Héctor Lavoe (El Cantante), Celia Cruz (La Reina, ¡Azúcar!), Rubén Blades (Salsa Poet), Marc Anthony, Tito Puente, Willie Colón (El Malo), Eddie Palmieri, Fania All-Stars (the supergroup), Gilberto Santa Rosa, Oscar D'León, and other icons of the genre. Each piece captures the specific aesthetic of each icon.
What is salsa and where does it come from?
Salsa is a Latin musical genre born in New York in the 1960s-70s, fusing Cuban son, mambo, Puerto Rican plena and bomba, jazz, and African American soul. Fania Records (1964) was the label that defined the genre. The golden age (1970-1980) produced the great icons. Subgenres: salsa dura (classic), salsa romántica (1980s-90s), Caribbean salsa, salsa choke (Colombian).
Are the T-shirts official Fania Records merchandise?
No. They are original fan art created by LOSMIOS, inspired by the visual aesthetic of the 1970s and the greatest exponents of salsa. They are not affiliated with Fania Records, the artists' families, or record labels. They are unique pieces that celebrate the legacy of the genre.
What designs does the collection include?
48 designs including: 1) Portraits of Héctor Lavoe, Celia Cruz, Rubén Blades, 2) Retro logos in the style of Fania All-Stars, 3) Iconic phrases (¡Azúcar!, La vida te da sorpresas, Pedro Navaja), 4) Instruments (timbales, congas, trombones), and 5) Stylized covers of classic albums like Siembra (1978), Lo Mato, and The Fania All-Stars.
What occasion are they ideal for?
Perfect for salsa festivals (Cali World Festival, Salsa Fest Veracruz, Hatuey Festival, Panama Salsa Festival), concerts by Marc Anthony, Gilberto Santa Rosa, or tribute bands, salsa schools, Nuyorican gatherings, weddings with a live band, and to bring Cuban-Puerto Rican-Nuyorican flavor.
Do you ship to Cuba, Puerto Rico, and New York?
Due to restrictions, we do not ship directly to Cuba. We do ship to Puerto Rico (birthplace of Hector Lavoe), New York (Spanish Harlem, Bronx, Brooklyn where modern salsa was born), Miami (Cuban diaspora), Colombia (Cali, world salsa capital), Venezuela (birthplace of Óscar D'León), Panama (Rubén Blades), Spain, Europe, and the rest of LATAM.
What design goes with a classic salsa look?
For a classic salsa look: black t-shirt with a portrait of Héctor Lavoe, vintage 70s pants, and dance shoes. For a modern "perreo-salsero" look: oversized t-shirt with the phrase "¡Azúcar!" (Celia Cruz style) and baggy jeans. For an elegant dance look: Fania All-Stars logo t-shirt with an open dark blazer and a guayabera on top.
